It had been a long time coming. ThePiepers.net has served me well in getting out the latest photos and news about the family, especially Joshua. Since he was born, I had been publishing more and realized that the old website was not really tailored for the content and photo albums. In addition, the design was a little dated in need of a fresh touch.
Here is a look at the old design.
The old site was built using Drupal with some custom PHP coding. This site was written using Django and Python. The main part of the site is the blog engine I built. It is more media-friendly with plenty of gadgets.
Python requires a web host that allows long-running processes. My old host, Host Gator, wasn’t well-suited for Python. So, after trying out a few different hosts, I went with Web Faction. They allowed me to build this custom web application complete with my own compiled services including, nginx, memcached and a custom build of Python.
