Thou Shall Not Submit Multiple Friend Requests

Have you ever had multiple friend requests by the same person on Facebook?

FacebookThe other night, my wife Beka, mentioned to me about how she was annoyed by an individual that kept sending her friend requests. Of course I smirked a little because I am one who ignores friend requests from people for various reasons.

I do not abide by the “everyone’s welcome” policy on Facebook. Primarily, if I have never met you in real life, I will not respond to your friend request.  I’m not interested in building a friend list to say, “hey look, I have a bazillion friends!”

So please, if you send someone a friend request, give him or her time to respond. Not everyone is on Facebook everyday. There are many times when someone just does not want to be your friend on Facebook.  Move on and please do not send multiple friend requests to one person.

What do you think about multiple friend requests?

I totally agree! Social media such as this (and similar to cell phones) has definitely created this expectation that you are going to be reachable all the time. The friend request thing is a pet peeve of mine too. If I reject you once, I'm going to do it again and like you said, if I've never met you, you're not going to be added. Here's another one of mine; someone that I've not seen for ten years friend requests me and I (generously) accept giving that person the benefit of the doubt. I give it a couple weeks to see if that person actually friended me with intentions to get in touch or just be on their friends list. Not a peep, so guess what, REMOVED! I am not on Facebook just to have a large list of friends either. I am there, as the site was probably intended, to have correspondence with people I currently keep in touch with, not just any random person who knows my name!
